East Palapa Ring Fiber Optic Training in Ruteng Receives Traditional Welcome

Kupang | July 1, 2022
Ruteng, the capital of Manggarai Regency, East Nusa Tenggara, was the next destination for the Palapa Ring East fiber optic sharing session on July 1, 2022.

Attended in person by Phillip Gobang (special staff to the Minister of Communication and Information), Danny Januar (Director of LTI for Community and Government, BAKTI Kominfo), Herbertus G.L. Nabit (Regent of Manggarai), and Eddy Siahaan (Director of Operations for PTT).

The welcome was accompanied by the traditional tuak curu (giving of palm wine) as a symbol of giving to the guests who came to celebrate. This was followed by the traditional ceremony of woven cloth garlanding and the presentation of traditional woven caps from NTT by the traditional leader.

The traditional welcome also included a performance of the tiba meka dance, a traditional Manggarai dance used to welcome guests of honor upon their arrival.

This dance was performed live by students from St. Petrus Vocational School, Ruteng. St. Aloisius Vocational School hosted a Fiber Optic sharing session for the East Palapa Ring in Ruteng, attended by 150 participants, including students majoring in Multimedia at St. Aloisius Vocational School and students majoring in Computer and Network Engineering at St. Petrus Vocational School.

As a native of the Manggarai region, the Minister of Communication and Informatics, Johnny G. Plate, also attended virtually to encourage the children of his region. He expressed his delight that this activity could take place in Ruteng, Manggarai, NTT.

PT Palapa Timur Telematika also has a native Manggarai citizen, Yustinus Mulianto, who is part of the East Palapa Ring development, as the Radio Microwave Manager. This also served as motivation for students to follow in his footsteps. This activity took place virtually at SMKN 1 Kupang. The students enthusiastically participated in the fiber optic introduction and practical training sessions.

"We express our appreciation to PT Palapa Timur Telematika for their efforts and initiative in providing training, as this aligns with BAKTI's vision, where the minister consistently instructs us to strive to involve young local talent as much as possible." Danny Januar - Director of LTI for the Community and Government, BAKTI Kominfo.

"As the Regent of Manggarai, I want to entrust our children to this. Hopefully, they can become local talents who can unite Indonesia, not only in Flores, NTT, but also in other places. I would like to thank PT Palapa Timur Telematika, Kominfo, and BAKTI for prioritizing us in organizing this activity." - Herbertus G.L. Nabit - Regent of Manggarai.

"This training is one way for PTT to directly contribute to the development of the surrounding community, while also educating them about the importance of the East Palapa Ring network. We hope that through this activity, we can identify competent young talents who can contribute directly to the advancement of telecommunications in their respective regions." - Eddy Siahaan, Operational Director of PT Palapa Timur Telematika
