Working Visit of the Political, Legal, and Security Agency, Lapan, and the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology to the East Palapa Ring Site

The Implementing Agency for the East Palapa Ring Project, PT Palapa Timur Telematika, represented by President Director Leon M. Kakisina, Operations Director Eddy Siahaan, and Compliance Director Benyamin Sura, along with staff, attended a working visit by the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs, along with BAKTI (Telecommunication and Informatics Accessibility Agency) and LAPAN (National Institute of Aeronautics and Space) to Biak Regency, Papua, from April 19-22, 2021.
To realize digital transformation and accelerate the development of Telemetry, Tracking & Command Satellite services in collaboration with the Government of India, telecommunications and internet access, and utilities for the East Palapa Ring, the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs conducted a working visit and reviewed the development of the East Palapa Ring service, which serves as the backbone of the telecommunications network in Papua, including Biak Regency.
The agenda opened with a discussion of the Indian Satellite Ground in Biak and the progress of telecommunications infrastructure development to support digital transformation. The meeting took place in the LAPAN Hall Meeting Room, Biak Numfor Regency. (19/04)
Also present at the event were the Commander of the Air Force Operations Command III, representatives of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and the Indonesian National Police (Polri), representatives of the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Team, representatives of the Regent of Biak, representatives of the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (BAKTI Kominfo), representatives of LAPAN, the Board of Directors of PT Palapa Timur Telematika, the Head of the Biak Communication and Information Office, the Biak Regional Development Planning Agency (BAPPEDA), and relevant local governments.
The East Palapa Ring presentation was delivered directly by Operations Director Eddy Siahaan. On this occasion, Eddy Siahaan explained several positive results of utilizing the East Palapa Ring service for the community, including the free Wi-Fi program located at the Network Operation Center (NOC). He also described the security disturbances experienced by the East Palapa Ring, particularly in Puncak Regency, Papua. One NOC in the Kigamani area and three repeater sites were damaged and burned by unknown individuals.
In his presentation, Eddy added his hope, "for security assistance from the government, especially from the security forces, to participate in maintaining the security of this vital telecommunications equipment. So that there will be no more damage." "Towards the East Palapa Ring network infrastructure site in the Papua region."
The following day, the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs team and their entourage visited the Biak NOC, located in Anggraidi Village, Biak Numfor Regency, Papua Province, to directly observe the East Palapa Ring infrastructure in Biak Regency and test the free Wi-Fi network provided to local residents around the Biak NOC.
