Saumlaki | March 11, 2020
The Tanimbar Islands Communications and Informatics Office, in collaboration with Palapa Timur Telematics, held a socialization event for Palapa Timur Telematics Wi-Fi.
The event, which took place at Weluan Beach, Olilit Timur Village, South Tanimbar District, Tanimbar Islands Regency, was attended by the Regional Secretary's Assistant III, Bambang Eko Prianto, S.Pd., the Head of the Tanimbar Islands Regency Transportation Office, Yul. Ongirwalu, and Communications and Informatics Office staff. On Tuesday, March 10, 2020, the event was attended by representatives from PT. Moratelindo Mansye Tentua, explaining that, based on President Joko Widodo's program, the sky toll road, which is already being prepared and will be launched in the Tanimbar Islands, will utilize this fiber optic (FO) network. The new operator of this network is PT. Telkom.
Tutua added that this outreach program can also attract customers to use the fiber optic network and support performance. Furthermore, he added that there are many benefits to be gained from using the fiber optic network, such as knowledge, education, and information.
Meanwhile, Abraham Mainake, Accounting at PT. Telkom, who conducted a video call with Assistant III for the Development and Communications Agency (Banbang), Eko Priyanto, S.Pd., emphasized that the internet network in Saumlaki City and its surroundings is still weak because there are more users than the available bandwidth.
"By mid-March 2020, the internet signal in Saumlaki City will be back to normal, and all users will be able to access the internet via Wi-Fi at locations prepared by the management," Abraham Mainake concluded.
Furthermore, during a video call with the Head of the Tanimbar Islands Regency Transportation Agency, Yul. Ongirwalu, Accounting at PT. Telkom's Abraham Mainake stated that Telkom needs to send a letter to the Tanimbar Islands Regional Government requesting cooperation in supporting the implementation of the fiber optic internet network and Wi-Fi services.
He stated that fiber optic has been present in KKT for a year, but PT Telkom is the only one using it. Compared to when it was under PT Telkomsel, bandwidth rental costs are more economical.
"Therefore, it is hoped that in the near future, telecommunications service providers and operators will be able to use the fiber optic network," explained Abraham Mainake, an accountant for PT Telkom.
